Middle America

So Dava and I were sitting down the other night and talking about adventure. We decided we wanted to do something. Early in the wee hours of Sunday morning we decided we were leaving on Tuesday for Cedar Point, Ohio. What’s in Cedar Point you ask? Only the best roller coaster Park in the world and Dava, has wanted to go since she was in 6th grade. So far I, Tal, have narrated this blog entry but I am going to pass the mic on to Dava.

Hey ya’ll Dava here.. so

DAY ONE: CYPRESS TO MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

I’ll skip all the boringness of the first three hours and talk about when the awesome started. We were about five or six hours into our adventure just having a lovely old time when all of a sudden fifty yards in front of us a Semi lost 2 of its tires and a wheel. It was so cool. These tires were going like 70 miles per hour on their own down the road before one tire went off the road to the right into a ditch, came back up the ditch, crossed two lanes of traffic, a median, and then two more lanes of traffic, jumped a dirt mound and disappeared into the woods. We lost track of the other tire but the metal wheel was a juggernaut. It must have gone a quarter of a mile in the ditch beside us before it finally hit a plastic construction wall. I know many of you are thinking “How could they be so excited about this when their lives where in danger?” Worry not, we were safe (Tal was driving). Then blah blah blah we got to Memphis. Memphis was shady, sketchy, ghetto… whatever you want to call it. Downtown Memphis was beautiful. All of the buildings are so old and you could just feel the history of the place. We went to Beale Street, the home street of B.B. King and the birthplace of blues. After the guy walking in front of us got arrested (a police officer tapped his shoulder and the guy just turned around and put his hands on the wall to be cuffed), we walked around Beale Street and stopped at every club to listen to the live music of blues, jazz, and soul. We ate at a diner where the kitchen was open and visible to everyone. Tal got boring stripped chicken breast (aka chicken tenders) while I got fried catfish. It…was…delicious. And that was Memphis.

DAY TWO: MEMPHIS TO NASHVILLE

We woke up and went to Graceland, we could tell you all about it but you can google the information online. It was everything I had hoped it would be. Tal had already seen it. We got to see his mansion, car collection, costumes, poorly written letter to the president, and airplanes. Graceland made us realize just what an icon Elvis is, and was. Neither of us could think of someone who is as powerful and influential in our day as Elvis was. After leaving Graceland we had a beautiful drive from Memphis to Nashville. After checking into the hotel we took a drive around Vanderbilt. Personally, I think UT’s campus is prettier. Tal shrugs. We then went to Centennial Park where they have a full size replica of the Parthenon. After a lovely walk around the pond and throwing the Frisbee for a while we went to dinner downtown at a restaurant Tal found online. We ate a Demo’s where you get a steak, bowl of spaghetti, salad or soup, and all the rolls you can eat for $9.79. And everything tasted great. We walked to first street and saw three tour buses with hundreds of people crowding them. We asked who was on it and someone replied Brooks and Dunn. We stood around for a while waiting to see if anything would happen. After what seemed like forever, this short guy in all black scooted next to me, dodged a few people in front of us and stood in front of the bus to sign a few autographs/ take pictures and then disappeared onto the bus. The little ninja of a man was THE BROOKS of Brooks and Dunn. His cameo lasted a whole 30 seconds, but it was awesome. Yes, Brooks walked right next to me and I didn’t realize it until he was 5 feet in front of me. Take that Caty, you and your Frankie Muniz. We went to the Charlie Daniels Museum, watched people break dance for about half an hour and then called it a night.

DAY THREE; NASHVILLE, TN TO CEDAR POINT, OH

We just passed the Welcome to Kentucky sign. Lots happened these first two days, but we are having a blast. We’ll keep you posted on more to come.

We never posted but we will continue here.. We made a pit stop at the Mammoth Cave National Park. Tal had never been in a cave so we had to go (and Dava the geologist really wanted to). We took a 2 hour tour and lots of pictures. During “Fat Mans Misery” which is a walkway less than 2 feet wide (hence the name) we were stuck behind “the fattest kid in the history of the world” Tals words not mine), and it took forever. THEN on the tower climb we got stuck behind a girl whose fear of heights was absolutely absurd. It was about 15 flights of stairs and she crawled the whole way with her eyes closed. The scenery was amazing, great limestone structure and flat top for all you geology lovers. The cave is the longest one in the world, over 360 miles!

We got to our hotel exhausted and hungry and that’s about it. Got rest, ate pizza, and slept.

DAY FOUR AND FIVE: CEDAR POINT AMUSEMENT PARK

So ridiculous. It was everything everyone hyped it up to be. Their new ride Maverick is INSANE.. Tal describes it as sustained intensity which equals ecstasy. We spent the first day hitting all the big rides. The second day we dedicated to the smaller rights and the evening for the big ones we wanted to ride one more time. Everything was planned perfect. Throughout our 2 days there we went on 19 rides, 16 different roller coasters. Pretty impressive for how crowded it was.

DAY SIX: CEDAR POINT, OH TO INDIANAPOLIS, IN….ST. LOUIS!!

Turns out Mall of America is in Minneapolis and NOT Indianapolis. Yes the mighty ducks were from Minnesota and not Indiana. Tal knows this now… Instead of staying in Indiana we decided to head straight to St. Louis and we are on our way now! Tomorrow we are going to the Arch, Budweiser Beer factory, and then to Edmond to see Grandma Sadler!!! KISSES
